I Am Stupid

After having hard time with translation of the Fountain, I was rather proud of the result, only to find that I translated the (written) phrase "Divine Words" as "Divine Worlds"! Stupid...

The only excuse I have is that the picture from which I translated looked like this:

Surprisingly, several people also objected to my translation of "Behold!" as "Ejhle!" (said by a 16th century man who is alone in the scene, to himself). I have no clue why. I think this is exactly the right translation in this context.

Just wouldn't be "Hle!" for "Behold!" enough?

"Ejhle!" was alright. BTW did you read the graphic novel?

well as being said, "shit happens":)

btw "Ejhle!" suits for this situation much better than in the scene from "The IT Crowd", as Moss is raising up the cup showing the picture on the bottom to Roy and shouting "Behold!".

petiny: The Czech version of "The IT Crowd" is horrible. I know is always hard to choose to right people with the right voice, but also the translation isn't perfect. Actually I think it's worse than the DivX subtitles I found.

wow, IT Crowd has Czech version? I've got it in the original sound. I think the IT Crowd is something "untranslatable", the original just rox.
Lol it must be worse than Czech version of Lost:)

Looks like they improved movie picture quality for translators! All in color, great resolution, no timer and no anti-pirate messages!

You have probably some VIP status or what?

The power of suggestion - seeing it with the subtitle of course I read it as "worlds" too :) And I usually grovel in subtitle errors like this one...

"Ejhle" is fine, I too don't see why people complain... One of my IT teachers used to push to translate "Cancel" as "Nešť" once upon a time.

By the way I can see why "Awe" was a problem, personally I'd probably go with "úžas". Yes, it is the "easy" way out, but... Anyway just like the movie it can have endless explanation, so who cares...

Ah, reading back I see we actually concur on the "awe" issue, what a surprise :)

Kristian's "ohromení" actually might've been even better.

EDIT: I had a typo in the previous post, stupid me..

Well, Biblí Kralická uses "I řekl jim Pilát: Aj, člověk" for the famous "Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man" (not exactly the same case as both are translations from other language) but better known "Ejhle" should be enough. Therefore you should get bunch of hard-sponge-hitting chihuahuas to go to work on complainers' trousers with a pair of jaws and a saliva!
