I am posting this chiefly so that other people with the same problem can find the easy solution here:
HTC Hero mobile phone offers custom ringtones. It lets you use any MP3 file anywhere on your memory card as a ringtone (you don't have to install any special software).
However, this is not the case with alert tones (the sounds that sound when calendar alert is triggered). The phone only offers some short predefined wimpy sounds which definitely cannot wake me up.
I tried installing "Rings Extended" (an app which provides extended ringtone functionality for other Android phones) but it didn't work on HTC Hero.
However, the solution is really simple!
Just create a directory called /media/audio/notifications/ on your memory card and put your MP3s in it (and maybe restart the phone). After that, the sounds in this directory will be automatically offered to you when choosing notification sounds (I am using this one).
Odkud máš tu verzi? Zní jinak než původní SID. Kdo to tak hezky upravil?
That's my remix (done live), see http://www.fuxoft.cz/tmp/dl/mp3/remixes/hubbard_bytefest.mp3
wow...thanks man...one of the important factor in getting a phone. I'm deciding Blackberry or HTC Hero. Dropping my iphone as soon as my contact is up.
BTW, does HTC hero sync with Mac OS?
Aaron: I don't know, I sync my Android directly with my Google Calendar and my computers are running Linux. If your Mac calendar also syncs wich Google Calendar, there should be no problem. HTC Hero also offers Outlook sync but I will not even touch that.
The "ringdroid" app seems to work well. You can trim MP3's and then save them as alarms, notifications or ringtones etc.
Hi - Really Stupid Question...But What Is A Directory? Does That Mean You Open Up The 'Removable Disk' Folder On Your Computer [When The Phones Plugged In Obviously], Which Contains All Your Phones Info And Then Make A New File With This Name? Bea
Bea: Directory is the same thing as "folder". Just open the "Removable disk" folder, create the "media" folder there, enter it, create "audio" folder inside, enter it, create "notifications" folder, enter it and put your melodie there.
sorry, but it doesn't work for me
How do I trim music to use it as a ringtone?
ok that worked great but is there a way to change the alarm sound to my own stuff and not the hero preselected stuff
once i did that i went to my sounds and display and my sounds still werent there. i dont know what im doing wrong
Thanks! I've been trying to figure this out for some time now.
Hi, i added the MP3 into the folder, but how do i change the alarm now?
