Yes, Virginia, there are Japanese Rape Simulators

When talking about Japanese weirdness and how much I like it, my ultimate trump card is casually mentioning the 200+ page rape simulator catalogue I've got from Japan. Again and again, people think I am making this up or at least exaggerating.

Well, here is the cover:

And here is one of its 224 pages (most definitely NSFW). Try reading the Japanese text, there are some interesting English words hidden in it. The censoring of the images was not done by me, that's how the page looks. In fact, I am pretty sure even the games themselves contain this censorship because in Japan it's illegal to display images of sexual organs during the intercourse (unless it's an intercourse with a demon or an octopus, which is OK).

Believe it or not, I am really not into rape simulators very much. However, I sort of admire the fact that the people who are into this sort of thing can legally satisfy their urges in Japan. And it seems there are actually fewer rape crimes in Japan than in the rest of the world...

  4. Well, I would be a little more careful about calling it a 'rape simulator catalogue'. It is merely a monthly magazine for men providing information about all sorts of games with erotic content. It is mostly dating sims for adults, hentai games and so on. The erotic game market (just like the pornographic industry here: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/amazon-selling-rape-simulation-game-14183546.html) does cater to all sorts of interests from straight sex to incest and even rape, but there are actually only very few ‘pure’ rape simulators - the most (in)famous being Rapelay, thanks to the fact it was shortly offered by Amazon.com (reactions as expected here, includes a read-worthy ‘expert’ opinion).

Another indication that rape simulators are not so common a thing in Japan is this article in Kotaku:http://kotaku.com/5506016/why-is-cnn-talking-about-rapelay .

PS: I quickly checked the September issue on my way home today and didn’t see anything rape related, just a bunch of tentacles, big eyed girls and very short uniform skirts:-)

  7. Well, I didn't know those girls have CONSENSUAL sex with those tentacles! They look rather frightened :)

  8. That's a good point. I was thinking more about the traditional idea of rape as we - sadly - know it here on Earth.
What is erotic in Japan, and the way it is presented and perceived, is a very interesting thing and I still haven't been able to really wrap my head around it all...but I am working on it:-)
